Afternoon Imago Gatherings for couples in DC area are available!
For two years the Mid-Atlantic Association for Imago Relationship Therapists (MAIT) has worked on providing continuing education events for couples that have attended the GLYW Workshop and/or were involved in Imago couples’ therapy. We believed that the “mountaintop” experience of a workshop needed reinforcement and follow-up to keep the Imago process in motion. This spring we launched this endeavor!
The committee determined that the topic of greatest importance is The Couples’ Dialogue. Each of the educational events would address a dialogical issue: Preparing for Dialogue; Pitfalls of Dialogue, etc. An educational presentation is followed by practice. MAIT provides one certified Imago therapist for 3 couples to work with the topic using a group process educational model.
Leadership for the day revolves among the certified Imago therapist who participated in a training session. At the training, several topics were developed using the “Group as Expert” process. Being the leader for the day allows the therapist to develop his/her skills and creativity as well as it does for the couples. The goal is to provide a safe and supportive environment that validates the difficulties and benefits of Dialogue so that couples can summon the courage and the skill to use the tools and processes available to them. The sessions are enthusiastically reviewed by the participating couples. Some want these opportunities on a monthly basis!
We are blessed with eager, competent and dedicated therapists to lead and facilitate this work. To date, the number of attending couples has been modest. We are committed to make this opportunity grow as we intensify our marketing to workshop presenters and therapists.
