The Keynotes

Dr. Pat Love

Dr. Pat Love was….in the words of attendees “awesome”, “phenomenal”, “dynamic”. Strong words which capture the energy Pat brought to her talk in which she combined neurobiology and Imago and asked “Are you wired for Love?”

Pat’s presentation started with a deeply touching moment, in which she opened herself up, fully vulnerable to her audience, as she explored the issue of making everyone feel included in a diverse culture. The end was no less emotional, as one-by-one Imagoans rose to flood Pat with appreciations and honor her contributions as a teacher and friend. We heard back from Pat after the conference who said “It was such a joy to see so many people that I love and to feel their love.

“It’s always great to hear from founders” said one attendee, and we were honored to have back-to-back presentations from Dr. Helen LaKelly Hunt and Dr. Harville Hendrix. . .

Dr. Helen LaKelly Hunt and Dr. Harville Hendrix

One attendee wrote “Helen’s was perfect; it touched me on a number of levels”. Helen’s spectacular PowerPoint presentation supported her strong message about empathy being at the core of societal change, and the hope of global peace. . .

Harville gave us an inspiring taster of a major undertaking he is developing. In this academic work he shows in detail how psychotherapy has moved from an individual paradigm, starting with Freud, to a relational paradigm. Along the way we learned about the prevalent thoughts of the day and how this influences psychotherapy – showing how Imago as a truly relational approach is emerging to meet the needs of society today. “Enough for 8 hours – please ask him to complete it next year!”; “I wanted more of that!”, particularly referring to the last section which “seemed most interesting and useful”; “I would have loved to hear more”; and many said we “would love to have the slides”. We’re hoping Harville will find somewhere highly respected in which he can publish this as original work, so that he can bring it to the world in a way which maximizes its impact for Imago.
