Imago Relationship Therapy Research

Imago Relationship Therapy Research

A second randomized controlled trial of Imago Relationship Therapy (IRT) sponsored by IRI has been underway for the past year.  This study was designed to examine the efficacy of IRT for couples experiencing distress and dissatisfaction in their committed romantic relationships, and to extend the findings of Gehlert, Schmidt, Giegerich, and Luquet, published in 2017.  Elizabeth Hembree, Ph.D., principal investigator of the study, is associate professor of clinical psychology in the Psychiatry Department of University of Pennsylvania School of Medicine in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania.  Dr. Hembree is aiming to enroll 90 couples with relationship distress in the study in two geographic locations: New York/Long Island, New York and Atlanta, Georgia. Nine to ten clinicians certified in Imago therapy in each city provide the IRT and Getting the Love You Want workshops.  We look forward to the results of this important study.

“It is an absolute human certainty that no one can know his own beauty or perceive a sense of his own worth until it has been reflected back to him in the mirror of another loving, caring human being.”
