This study is designed to examine the efficacy of IRT for couples experiencing distress and dissatisfaction in their committed romantic relationships, and to extend the findings of Gehlert, Schmidt, Geigerich, and Luquet, published in 2017. Elizabeth Hembree, PhD., principal investigator of the study, is a professor of clinical psychology in the Psychiatry Department of University of Pennsylvania School of Medicine in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. Dr. Hembree is aiming to enroll 90 couples with relationship distress in the study in two geographic locations: New York/Long Island, New York and Atlanta, Georgia. Nine to ten clinicians certified in Imago Therpay in each city provide the IRT and Getting the Love You Want workshops. Eligible participants are straight or LGBTQ couples who are married/cohabitating for a minimum of a 1 year, are currentlyexperiencing significantrelationship distress, and have interest in improving relationship satisfaction. Enrollment of couples is progressing smoothly and will continue over the next 12-14 months.
